About The Park

Our Story

Immerse yourself in the best of Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is more than industry. While the tech scene continues to boom and filmmakers romanticize the city’s steel making past, Pittsburgh’s residents have turned to the city’s natural resources that have renewed the spirit of the city. Pittsburgh’s riverfronts have come alive. In recent years, trail-use along the city’s picturesque riverfront has increased by 200%*. Commuters walk and bike to downtown on lush trails; the rivers are lively with boaters and water sport enthusiasts; and weekenders take scenic bicycle rides to historic landmarks and pop-up breweries.

Located in the heart of Pittsburgh’s most bustling neighborhood, The Park is steps away from SouthSide Works — the Southside neighborhood’s ultimate live-work-play center. At The Park, the city becomes your playground, whether you are lacing up for a run or taking a bite out of Pittsburgh’s nationally acclaimed culinary scene. SouthShore Riverfront Park

South Shore Riverfront Park opened in 2012, serving as an important connection for the Great Allegheny Passage and Three Rivers Heritage Trail. The former steel mill barge dock has been converted to a public park and 1,000 seat amphitheater in an innovative project that straddles a railroad tunnel and overcomes a 40’ drop in elevation to provide access to the Monongahela River. Switchback terraces connect upper and lower plazas to create an exciting outdoor public space for recreation, relaxation and special events.

Three Rivers Heritage Trail

The Three Rivers Heritage Trail is an urban rail trail paralleling the riverbanks in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Allegheny County for about 33 miles, often on both sides of the rivers, and offering unique views of the city of Pittsburgh.

Great Allegheny Passage

The Great Allegheny Passage was completed in 2013 after 35 years of trail building between Pittsburgh and Cumberland, Maryland. In Cumberland, the GAP connects to the 184.5 mile C&O Canal Towpath, and together, they provide a non-motorized, nearly level path between Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. The section of the GAP from Cumberland to Ohiopyle is a segment of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail, one of eight nationally designated scenic trails.

South Side Marina

The South Side Marina opened in 2015 on the Monongahela River in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as the next development phase of the South Shore Riverfront Park project designed as “a place where everyone can enjoy the city’s greatest, the rivers.”

Town Center Refresh

The heart of SouthSide Works will reopen in late Spring/ early Summer with all-seasons outdoor food, beverage, and cocktail kiosks, public seating, and a new stage as the perfect setting for local performances and events.

Dog Park

The grassy field located behind The Cheesecake Factory is transforming into the ultimate social space for furry friends and their owners. A fenced-in park combined with an all seasons refreshment concept, to include local 21+ libations, is in the works.
